Trish Nelson's journey from her Australian roots to Italy is a fascinating tale. Her parents' academic careers led her to grow up in different parts of Asia, but it was in her twenties that she fell head over heels for Italy's culinary and winemaking culture. She decided to stay, immersing herself in the world of wine with renowned producers like Cantina Giardino and Le Coste.
Today, Trish resides near Lake Bolsena, where she meticulously tends to two hectares of ancient vineyards. These vineyards are blessed with exceptional volcanic soils, thanks to the lake's unique microclimate and the region's temperate conditions. Trish and her partner Piero are committed to organic farming, emphasizing biodiversity by using herbal teas from local plants in their work.
In a simple cantina nearby, Trish crafts her wines, using various vessels and adhering to natural winemaking principles. What sets her apart is her preference for chestnut barrels when making macerated white wines, her avoidance of adding sulfites, and her unwavering dedication to creating the best wines each vintage. Trish's wines are not just a testament to her skill but also a reflection of her deep commitment to organic and biodiverse winemaking practices. Each bottle tells a story of her unique journey and the beauty of Lake Bolsena's terroir.
